When You Should Consider Adding a HVAC Zoning System

Expert Advice from Our HVAC Technicians at Comfort Solutions

HVAC zoning has been around since heating and cooling indoor spaces became the norm. In the winter, radiators were only turned on in the rooms that were being occupied and, in the summer, AC units were also utilized in the same way. These days, zoning central heating and air systems often gets a little more complicated due to the way our homes are built. For instance, new and larger homes usually feature multiple systems connected to different ductwork. However, many of these homes are built to support only one system. A lack of zoning can then lead to temperature inconsistencies throughout the home. Fortunately, if you are experiencing challenges trying to find the right heating and cooling balance in your home you may want to add a zoning system.

Adding a zoned system is a big project and requires help from a professional at Comfort Solutions HVAC. We can help you choose the right system to make your home as comfortable and energy efficient as possible.

How to Tell When the Time is Right for a Zoning System

A zoned system is essentially a single HVAC system that serves two or more zones in the home, instead of relying on two separate HVAC systems to control your indoor temperature. If you are interested in a better way to gain greater control over your heating and cooling distribution throughout the home, consider adding zones or rezoning your HVAC system. Here are a few more instances where adding zones makes the most sense:

  • Building a New Home: If you are in the process of building a new home, all the mechanical and electrical components that are needed to operate the system can be installed at the same time. It is also a good time to make sure that the HVAC system being installed will have adequate capacity for your zoning system.
  • Installing a New HVAC System: If you are installing a new HVAC system and ductwork in your home, it is a good time to consider adding a zoned system.
  • Experiencing Inconsistent Temperatures: If you are constantly experiencing fluctuating temperatures in the different rooms of your home, or you have family members who prefer different temperatures in their rooms, add a zoning system.
  • Leaving Rooms Unoccupied: When you are not using all the rooms in your house on a daily basis, it makes more sense to install a zoning system which can safely turn on and off the heating and cooling mechanism in certain parts of the home.

While installing a zoned system is not recommended as a DIY project, the temperature control features and significant energy savings make it an extremely appealing investment for many homeowners.
